How to Measure the Success of Your Blog

Do you know how many people read your blog posts on average?

I bet you don’t!

It’s important, though. Because this is a metric with which you can track your blogging success.

The easiest way to collect your visitor stats is by using the plugin Jetpack with its inbuilt program, Site Stats. Most WordPress sites already have Jetpack installed.

However, you’ll have to link Jetpack to a WordPress.com account. If you haven’t got an account, just click on WordPress.com and create one. It will only take you 5 minutes.

Once you have a WordPress.com account—even it it’s just for this purpose—you can activate Jetpack.

Click on Jetpack and then on the button Connect to Get Started.

The next step is to enter the username and password of the WordPress.com blog you just created.

Once you click on Authorize Jetpack, Jetpack is ready to jump into action.

Personally, I only use Jetpack for the Site Stats. You’ll see the link for Site Stats when you click on Jetpack in your WordPress Dashboard.

If you have just installed Jetpack, it will take a few days for your Site Stats to appear.

There is a lot you can find out through Site Stats. However, for the purposes of tracking the Traffic Avalanche Strategy, all we need to do is to get a baseline reading of page views on your blog.

How to determine a base-line reading

The best measure to use is your page view stats. As you can see in the graph below, you can click on ‘Weeks’ to get a baseline reading of the activity on your account.

Take the last three weeks, add up the total and then divide through 3. This will give you your average weekly page views.

Make a note of your average number of page views in your spreadsheet.

Later, once you’ve completed the Traffic Avalanche Strategy, you’ll be able to compare your baseline reading with your new, awesome results!
