Introduction: How to Grow Your Blog by Writing Guest Posts

Guest blogging (known as ‘guest posting’ to blogging insiders) is one of the best ways to gain new subscribers.

In fact, many agree it is the best way to bring in new readers. When your blog is new it’s kind of lonely out there on the internet.

How can people find your blog?

Of course there are many ways to promote your blog — aside from being sure you create great content on it. Popular ‘off-blog’ strategies include: commenting on other blogs, networking, sharing your posts on social media, using bookmarking sites such as Digg and Stumbleupon, posting on forums, blog carnivals, emailing your best links to bigger bloggers, and even paying for advertising if you can afford it.

And yet, for a newish blogger, none of these are as effective as guest posting. In this course we’ll take a look at why and how.

Barriers to guest blogging

Many ‘young’ bloggers are intimidated by the idea of writing for other blogs. Here are some questions you may have:

  • How do you figure out which blogs to write for?
  • How do you approach the blog owner, or figure out what type of post to write, for that matter?
  • And what about finding enough time and motivation to write for your own blog, much less guest post on other blogs?

Don’t worry! When you have completed this course, you’ll have the answers to all these questions, plus a treasure chest of tips and ideas on how to network with other bloggers, discover ideal topics, write a stellar pitch and craft a post that gets attention.

We’ll take you step by step through the process of running a campaign for each blogger you want to approach – before you send out your pitch. You’ll also learn a bit about the technical mechanics of submitting the post and how to make the most of the opportunity once your work is published on the other blog.
