Check the list below to see whether you have actioned what you’ve learned in this course. Of course, not every blog needs to conform to the principles below, but if you’ve chosen different strategies for your blog, make sure you can say exactly why.

What is your blog about?

  • Can you express the message of your blog in one sentence?
  • Does your design reflect your message?
  • Do the blog name and tagline clearly express your message?
  • Does your tagline express the benefits of reading your blog?
  • Are your post topics in line with the focus of your blog?
  • Do your headlines reflect your message?

Is the navigation clear?

  • Is the navigation bar clearly visible?
  • Is the navigation bar horizontal?
  • Are these key links present on the navigation bar: Home, About, Contact?

Is it easy to subscribe to your blog?

  • Do you have a signup box high up in the sidebar?

Who is the blogger?

  • Do you have an About page?
  • Do you have a picture of yourself on the About page?
  • Is your About page written in the first person?
  • Is there a link to your About page on the navigation bar?

 

What are your best posts?

  • Have you created a list of ‘popular posts’ in the sidebar?

Is the design uncluttered?

  • Are you using a design with not more than two columns?
  • Are all the elements in your sidebar strictly necessary?

Does the design follow eye-track research?

  • If your focus is on good content, do posts show in the left hand column?
  • Can the start of your posts be seen above the fold (without scrolling down)?

Have you structured your last blog post correctly?

  • Does your headline express a promise?
  • Does your blog post have an introduction?
  • Is you post scannable with subheadings, bulleted points and short paragraphs?
  • Does your blog post have a conclusion?

Does the last image you chose attract readers?

  • Is it an image of a person or people, or of kids or animals?
  • Do the eyes in the image track toward your post?
  • Does the image add something to your post?

Have you set up an autoresponder (Aweber or Mailchimp)?

  • Do you ask readers to subscribe on every page?

Do you have a stats program set up?

  • Are you tracking blog visits?
